Information about the application process and study permit for Norway:
To be able to become a student at a Folk High School (folkehøyskole) in Norway, you are obliged to fulfil certain requirements. The UDI, (Norwegian Foreign Affairs Directory) requires a written guarantee from us, stating that all expenses, for a foreign student from outside the European Community (EU), have been taken care of.
This means:
If you belong to a country outside the European Union (EU/EEA), you need to pay a guarantee amount for a school year (set by the Norwegian government each year) before the Norwegian Foreign Affairs Directory/UDI will accept your visa application. You may read more about the details of the application process here: https://www.folkehogskole.no/en/prices-and-visa
Once we have registered the payment of the guarantee amount to our account, we will send you documentation that you may use to apply for a visa. The guarantee amount is withdrawn from the total cost of your line, and you then pay the additional cost of your chosen program later. If you want to apply for a single room, you should know that for this, you also have to pay extra NOK 10000, - pr. year, in addition to the school fee.
To apply to one of our programs/lines, you have to submit an application paper to our school.
As an international student at Kristiansand folk high school, you will still be able to apply for all the different programs/lines that we offer and you will travel on different international and local trips, according to the line you choose. You may find all of them here All the different lines at Kristiansand folk high school They are all described in Norwegian but are easily translated with online translation programs.
You may choose your program and submit your application here: Application to Kristiansand Folk High School
Once we receive your application, you will receive a receipt for the application, and the teacher of your line will usually ask for a talk with you before sending you.
an offer via email. To secure your spot, you must confirm the offer. If you are not from an EU/EEA country, you must pay the gurantee amount and then apply for the visa. If you are from EU/ EEA, you must pay the enrollment fee of NOK 3000, - to secure your spot. We understand bank transfers take time, so we are flexible with the deadline. Once paid, you have a 2-week refundable opt-out period. Once your enrolment fee is paid, your place at the school is confirmed. After 2 weeks, the enrollment fee becomes non-refundable. You can ask us to extend the deadline for this payment if you need more time. When your spot in our school is confirmed, you will receive lots of information from our administration, to make you well prepared for a year in Norway.
Among other emails, you will receive one to select your dormitory, explain dietary preferences, and other details. You will get packing lists and also lots of other information to be well prepared.

The first weeks, we want to give you an introduction program to prepare you for Norwegian life and culture and to make sure you settle well in our school.
After arrival, we will also help you register at the local immigration office. You will need to bring proof of insurance, financial independence, and other required documents. These were submitted along with your visa application, but you must also show them again in person.
After you arrive and register with the police, you will receive a Norwegian ID number.
This is mandatory for all staying for more than 3 months in Norway, also if you are an EU/EEA student. All foreign students need to have a private health/travel insurance from their home country. It makes things easier and faster. We also advise EU/EEA students to apply for and bring an EU health card from your home country.
A Norwegian ID number allows you to apply for free healthcare in Norway, a Norwegian bank account, cellphone account etc. Normally these things could take a long time to process.
Valid private travel/health insurance from home is under all circumstances best for all foreign students.
